Local wood for building
It comes as no surprise that wood prices have been crazy since about mid pandemic. For me personally, the high prices in the local big box stores was the best thing for me. Why?? Well it forced me to find an alternative source of wood. After a few phone calls I found a local saw mill.
After chatting with Bob from Holiister’s Saw Mill, I decided to take a short drive from the shop to the mill. The gentleman welcomed me, and were happy to show a nubie around. As I was starting the build on the quilt rack, and discussing the project with the guys I settled on a few pieces of walnut and ambrosia maple.
If you are a builder and are frustrated by the big box stores, go check out your local mill. You might be surprised by the expertise of the people who hang out there.
